Neighbors in Portland got so sick of a house they suspected was an outpost for drug activity, that they took matters into their own hands.
KPTV reports that concerned residents started handing out "heroin for sale" fliers with the house's address. One of the fliers was sent to police and it piqued their interest.
This community took a very brave, but bold step to keep their neighbor hoodsafe. I think it is great that neighbors went as far as to record license plate numbers and record suspicious activity, but I also believe their actions were very dangerous especially when they began passing out the flyers. If any of them were caught it could have meant serious trouble if they were dealing with "real" drug dealers. I think the fact that they went as far as to record suspicious activity was dangerous enough and should have been enough for the police to at least investigate the house.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the flyers were the result of a disgruntled neighbor or speculation from the crazy lady next door? Why did the community have to go as far as to print out and pass out flyers advertising the drug dealers activities. Why did it take this flyer to jolt the police into action? If this had been going on for years why couldn't the police act on the surveillance done by the community? Why did this community have to put their own safety at risk to keep their neighborhood safe? Who's to say these drug dealers wont get out of jail looking for neighbors they felt were just a little too nosy?
To be honest, I'm surprised that the police didn't pass this off as a hoax. I can understand the fear struck into these people, but heroin typically isn't sold by the scary/killyouwithautomaticweapons type of people. I'm sure plenty of them have jobs that they go to, and if it's that bad they can call from someone else's phone. what a sad state this country is in. :(
